What is a Catalina?

It is a coupon that prints out when from the cash register at the end of the purchase if you meet the requirements. There a lot of choices for the General Mills Catalina  items this week. You can take a look at the flyer to see what will work best for your family, but here is what I did.

Not to toot my own horn, but I went in thinking…hey, yeah…I’m getting pretty good at this coupon thing, I’ll figure it all out when I get there!  I hit the aisle’s and my confidence faded, big time! Here is what I suggest for those of you who tend to get all discombobulated like me when I attempted to figure out the Catalina deals during my shopping trip. The best thing to do is get it all figured out (Make a Plan) before you leave the house. Bring a calculator and get your envelopes all set up into separate transactions…then, stick to the plan.  It worked out okay, but it took me a lot longer and I changed my mind 100 times on what products to buy and which coupons to use for the best deal to meet the $20 Catalina  purchase. I brought in a couple of reusable bags to separate my purchases in and then tossed the coupons in each bag as not to mix them all up! I simplified my purchase because my head was spinning!

Take note – A Shaws Catalina is based on the original product prices not the sale price, so you need to keep a total of the original prices as not to over spend for your Catalina.

Here is how my $20.00  transaction worked:

Purchased 5 boxes of Fiber One Bars -Reg $3.79  (sale $2.49)

Used 2 $1/2 from 1/31 SS and 1 $0.40/1 here

Purchase 1 Old El Paso Tortilla shells – $2.19

=Total Spent $12.24  (plus got back a $7 and $3.50 Catalina)

Kleenex tissues – (6 boxes) B1G1 $1.89   ( I got the bigger box with 112 sheets instead of the small more fashionable boxes which only have 75 sheets).

Used 2 $0.50/3  here (they will double them to $1.00 each)  or blinkies at the store $1/4

Total Spent =$3.67 plus received $3.00 Catalina back for purchasing 6 .
